I'm not pleased with any of the shots of me, so you get a shot of Don instead.

Monday, August 29, 2005

I'm in the middle of a shoot of myself, for my new school ID picture. Here's one from the dancefloor (Not me.)

Sunday, August 28, 2005

Here's a shot I took of part of a little Pavilion at a park. I'll be posting a bunch of pictures from this day as I work on moving down to Georgia. I hope you enjoy the shots from the wedding, I'll try to pick some interesting ones.

For those of you who like to spend your time looking at the ground, I'd like to direct your attention to the beautiful skies that we've been having in Western, MA at least, lately.

On the Job

I do this kind of stuff more than I'd like to. Gas mask is not any kind of fashion statement, my lungs burn from insulation quite often. Oh yay.

I shot this on a timer, F-Stop priority (since it was pretty hard to see down there and really cramped.) Auto focus, and hoping it might come out. I'm below a house, running wires through old insulation and crawling in dirt and god knows what. Addition work is really crappy compared to working on new houses. The stuff you are crawling in hasn't seen the likes of man for at least 20 years.

And to think I used to go caving for fun. haha.

A fellow photographer

This is a shot of a fellow camera lover, and friend of mine, Sam Boyko. He's working on his own photo a day project here.

I shot this while we were fooling around with my new Canon flash unit (and a lot of fire, you might see that later).

One from the worksite

My other job, at this moment, is working on construction sites with my father doing electrical work. This is the house we are currently working on. I took this yesterday after a long day of work.

I shot this using my 20d, a polarizing filter, and my 17-85mm lens. I processed the RAW file through CS2 Bridge, making slight levels and curves adjustments and bumping up the saturation in the blue channels.

Tuesday, August 23, 2005

This is very old, you've probably seen it before. I've got a lot of work processed that I don't have permission to post yet (paid work) and a lot of work that I haven't had time to post yet do to my other work and planning for the move down to Georgia. Hopefully this will hold you over for tonight. :)

Playing around with a subtle technique

This was a shot I grabbed of a friend at a public park. I got bored and used it to experiment a bit with layers. I copied the background layer and used a Gaussian blur on it. I then set it to lighten and knocked the opacity down to 77%. I then masked out the eyes and lips a little bit to bring a little more sharpness back there. I wanted to get the sort of effect one sometimes gets with a softening filter used over the lens. It's not really the same, but I like it on this one. My favorite effected part is the hair and glasses.

I also knocked up the saturation a little bit in RAW when I processed it. It was a cloudy day so it wasn't too harsh out. It had just rained, actually.

This was taken about 3 minutes before I took that picture of Lance posted below.

I also want to point out a buddy of mine now has a blog on livejournal. He's an amazing award winning photographer and you should check him out at .

Here's a shot I grabbed with no real prep at a picnic of my pal Lance.

Saturday, August 20, 2005

I really liked the colors in this one, and decided to keep an otherwise 'wrong' shot in most ways. This was when Lance, my sister, Dani, Julia, and I all went to see Ben Folds, Ben Lee, and Rufus Wainwright. Good show.

International Photography Awards, Honorable Mention!

I found out that I have two Honorable Mentions in the International Photography Awards!
One was in Fine Art - Still Life
and the other was in People - Portraits.

On a totally unrelated note, here is an unedited photo from an amazing little Ballet I was asked to shoot a little while back.

Thursday, August 18, 2005

This is from a couple weeks ago. I was working on a house opposite this pretty early in the morning when the fog cleared and I shot this. It's still sort of foggy in parts. I played with it a little bit in processing, but it's still no where near as beautiful as the real thing. I've never been much of a landscape photographer.

Wednesday, August 17, 2005

As promised on DA, Brian Carrol, the last I'm posting from this shoot. There may be more on his site, possibly in a format you cannot even imagine! Or not. No idea yet. :)

Les Fiancailles

I've finally put a name to this one, and gotten around to posting it.

Monday, August 15, 2005

Today is Rin A. Ascher's birthday! He's a my closest friend and confidant, and I'm not sure what life would be like without him around. I'm glad he is.

For his birthday, we picked up a digital point and shoot camera at Sears. He actually took a couple pretty good pictures with it that very night. I was impressed. The camera itself is sort of disappointing though. Rin is taking it on his trip to see his boyfriend down in Baltimore this month, but when he comes back we will probably return it and get a better deal on a better camera (used probably) from B+H.

Congrats, Kido Bandido!

I just found out my friend, and roommate from last year, Gabriel got honorable mention in the International Photography awards. He deserves it! I wish him luck in the finals.

The categories that I entered in have not been announced yet.

Today was a BBQ with some friends and acquaintances. I will post something from that soon.

Saturday, August 13, 2005

My Father, I, and Rin are battling the fleas till I leave for a BBQ in CT on Sunday with Rin.

It's a war of attrition. Unrelated note, my dad is sometimes mistaken for a Cowboy. Visual aid above.

Oh Cats.

The next few days will probably be backdated entries. All old work. I have a lot of new stuff to post, but not time to process it.

Our cats still have this flea infestation. So much joy. Here is a picture of Boots, from a long time ago, on 35mm Black and White film. Scanned darkroom print.

Thursday, August 11, 2005

Spent the day at work, and then dealing with a massive flea problem with our cats. Here's another from the archives..

More info at the link. This is the first in what I hope will eventually be a much larger personal project.

Outtake.

Here's an old outtake from a shoot. This is my assistant, Rin, who was helping me check the lights at the time I stole this shot. My lightmeter is in his other hand.

Tuesday, August 9, 2005

Busy day. I'll just have to post another on the job snapshot instead of anything really interesting.

Old Old update.

This shot was on the first roll of 35mm film I ever processed myself.
That was a quick minute ago.

Sunday, August 7, 2005

I shot a wedding yesterday, and am currently working on the post production. I'll be updating some old work in my blog while I do the work for the wedding, I shot 300 digital shots and 66 film. I did do one image though, to post online.

Saturday, August 6, 2005

I'm getting ready to shoot a wedding, so I don't really have time to do anything new for you today.
Here's something older. Anyone who knows me knows this shot, but I figure I'll post it here. It was a finalist in a Mac Group submission thing for their MAC on Campus thing, but didn't make it in. Next time I'll get something in, perhaps!

Edward

So yeah, finally got the images back that I shot on film back at Connecticon. As some of you may know, I was doing a shoot for the winner of the costume contest in craftmanship.

However, pretty much everything went south, and I don't mean to disneyworld. The people who won the shoot were tired and just went home. After I had set up all my lights and whatnot... and then, my transmitters and in strobe syncs were not working. Backup sync cord to the rescue. So, one light.

Also, I basically had a corner to shoot in. Woo. To the side was a drop to the first floor of the convention center and a fire extenguisher, or something.

Since I already had film loaded and whatnot set up, I just pulled aside a couple random people and put something down onto the film. You know those people who say showing up is half the battle? They're right. The other half is actually putting something down onto the film.

Not my best work, but I figure worth sharing for feedback. Click that above JPG image to be taken to the full size.

Soft Noise Rin

Sort of a follow up in spirit to the Ben shoot, here is a picture I took of Rin last weekend when I visited him.
Digital noise for artistic purposes, and on purpose (see past postings for ideas
on such). The only thing done to this not done in camera were simple adjustment
layers. One curves, one levels, and one saturation, just a tad on the last one.
Natural Light, Canon 20d.

Tuesday, August 2, 2005

I've got to speed off to work, but I'll leave you with an older image.

Monday, August 1, 2005

Alison

Natural light portrait. Mamiya 645AFD.
Older work, I'm finally getting around to posting. I only have two more of this backlog.

As always, click for full view.
